What is Health’s a Journey?

This is a site about my life and my journey as I strive to learn more each and everyday to keep my family happy and healthy. We love to camp, hike, explore and share our experiences (both good and bad) so others can learn from our trials and tribulations 🙂

My passions include first and foremost my husband and my dogs – Lacey, Logan, Leena and Leevi (and Lance who we lost a few years ago). He totally changed our life opening up new doors that we never would have found without him, including the wonderful world of Essential Oils. Finding essential oils was one of the best things to happen to me. They have changed the way I care for myself and my family. If you are on the fence about them or have never thought about using them, I would definitely recommend it and I will be there to help you every step of the way.

I also found PawTree because of my dogs. Lacey was aging and getting so picky that she was barely eating and losing weight. At barely over 10 pounds losing any weight was not good. She was otherwise healthy, just aging. I found PawTree and their PawPairings and it really changed her eating habits. I can now give her a different flavoring for each meal and best yet they are healthy, containing vitamins and nutrients and not just full of sugar and coloring. She is eating pretty consistently and no longer loosing weight. Our other dogs love them too!

My other passion is camping and just being able to get away and hike with my dogs and my husband. We are sharing our journeys here too for our friends & family and anyone else who wants to follow and learn from our crazy adventures.

20160213_184703Who am I?

I am a software developer, part time dog trainer, Pawtree Pet Pro and DoTerra Wellness Advocate.  I first found my passion for programming and web design during high school. After graduation, I pursued that passion by attending college at Millikin University in Decatur, IL where I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. I decided to continue my education by enrolling in the Master’s program at Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, IL where I later graduated with my Masters Degree in Computer Science. After graduation, I began my professional career, soon after I knew I wanted to work for myself and leave corporate america.

20170722_120803I am currently self-employed and spend most of my ‘work’ time on DogBizPro. While I love coding, I live for the day when we can just move into a motorhome and explore this great country sharing even more adventures together. My dogs are my life. They have taught me patience and to see the world in a different light and for that I will be forever grateful and dedicated to them.

Who is my family?

My family consists of my husband, Stephen, and my 4 wonderful dogs, Lacey, Logan, Leena and Leevi. We recently lost our beloved dog Lance to Lymphoma in January of  2017. He was the main reason I started using essential oils and started Health’s a Journey. He had extremely bad allergies every fall and would lick his paws raw. We tried anything and everything. They first thing that worked was essential oils and the rest was history.

Why did I create this site?

I have been interested in health related topics for quite a long time. As a child, I knew nothing about healthy eating. I played outside so I got plenty of exercise, but my food choices were far from ideal and I knew nothing better at the time. After going away to college, I started really focusing on health and things that I could do to improve my health, reading books, watching documentaries, and trying to gather as much information as possible.

Then I got married and my husband and I really changed our eating habits and he lost over 60 lbs. We then got our first dog (and 5 weeks later our second :)) and I again felt like I knew nothing. I began reading and learning about the health and nutrition for our four legged friends. I am by no means an expert, but I have 4 dogs who have always been very healthy and I of course want to keep it that way. This is my attempt to organize my information and hopefully pass it on to others looking for such information.
